Introduction:

 ‘A little Levity’, posted on this site early last year, was intended as a break from the grim reaper-themed vignettes that preceded it. The vignettes of ‘Levity Redux’ are intended to juxtapose with the grimness in postings planned to follow…  

If the ‘levity’ of pieces in the first batch seemed dark–– many of the twenty-nine vignettes here will likely seem darker. Many employ the self-teasing tone that has served me formidably over the decades. I would never imagine that I missed a career in comedy writing, but the self-effacing humour I like to indulge has probably saved me thousands in therapy fees…

As for the detail reproduced from the medieval painting of the ‘the Laughing Fool’ (Jacob Cornelisz Van Oostsanen, circa 1500)  several of the following pieces make reference to the Fool of the Tarot pack. Although he sets out utterly unprepared for his life-long journey–– by some miracle, he is still stumbling along…

I do hope that one of these pieces might somewhere raise a smile as twisted as my own…
